Based in the North East of Scotland, Aberlour Press published its first publication - The Technical & Legal Guide to the UK Oil and Gas Industry - in 2007. Since launching its flagship 'blue book' or 'blue bible', the company has gone on to publish the highly-regarded three-volume Technical & Legal Guide to Global Hydrocarbons.
As a specialist publisher for the energy industry, Aberlour Press takes a unique approach to tackling technical and legal subject matter. All of its published guides have been produced with accessibility in mind; the narrative is easy to read, font sizes are large and the text is augmented with thoughful and relevant use of illustrations and photographs.
The books' two co-editors are Ewan Neilson and John Wils.
Ewan Neilson is the founder and manager of Aberlour Press, as well as co-editor of the company's four core publications. He heads the energy team at Stronachs LLP, an established independent legal practice in Aberdeen, where he is a partner. Ewan is qualified in Scots and English law.
John Wils is a senior oil industry professional with comprehensive knowledge of the UKCS upstream industry and over 40 years' experience. He has held a number of important positions during his career, including seven years as Aberdeen-based director of operational and technical affairs for UKOOA (now Oil & Gas UK). John's academic awards include an honorary doctorate of technology from the Robert Gordon University, where he also served on the board of governors.
Together with a ten-person production team, the two co-editors were responsible for bringing the four technical and legal guides to market. Over 44 authors and 22 companies and institutions contributed to the content of the 'blue book' alone.
More recently, the team at Aberlour Press has made the books available in compact, electronic format to further develop their accessibility. The full range of electronic titles can be viewed via the e-bookstore.
"...make no mistake, these books are designed to inform and they do it admirably well."
